Larry’s Powder Alert January 27, 2013

Powder Alert for Thursday morning
Weather update Jan 27

At last, there is new snow ahead.

I am optimistic about the weather system coming up for Tuesday and Wednesday. The models are showing more precipitation than a few days ago. I confess, the models did not lie to me as much as I previously thought. I am sorry for being so accusatory; I was just upset, I wasn’t getting my powder fix, is that so hard to understand? Sure, call me a big crybaby.

The next forty-eight hours will see a respectable amount of precipitation in the Cascades – there is only one issue: moderate snow levels, but don’t worry SL will drop. Tuesday though part of Wednesday the snow level will be 4500-5000ft, so medium to upper slopes are fine. Expect a mix on the lower slopes.

About half of the storm will be a rain/snow mix at lower elevations. Upper elevations will be mostly snow, so that is about 5-15″ of snow above 4500ft. Snow level will come down to 2000ft by later Wed and Thursday – with lower elevations eventually getting 4-8″. My pick is skiing later Wednesday, but really Thursday morning will be the sweet spot as the SL bottoms out, as snowfall tapers off. POWDER ALERT for Thursday morning.

After that, the weather looks dry for several days, but chilly. The new snow will really help freshen the surface.
