POWDER ALERT – for Sunday & Monday

Sent Saturday morning Feb 22

Expect more Cascade snowfall ahead.

It’s been very snowy, with more than 10 feet of Cascade snowfall in the last ten days (I got four of ten). The series of storms brought the depth and coverage to near or above normal. In the last few days the snow quality has really improved, with the cold air and lower snow levels. You’ll really see that improvement Sunday and Monday, with high snow quality potential.

And here we go again. I like what I see. This is great weather pattern, featuring fabulous snow. Also, be cautious of possible lowland snow

(Seattle north or foothills) while driving into the Cascades.

Expect increasing snow later today with superior Cascade snow quality. The reason for the great snow quality is low snow levels in the range of 500-1500ft for for the next couple of days.

Overnight Saturday; expect 3-8″ of snow in the Cascades. Sunday, you’ll ski in snowfall all day (new 2-5″) auto filling your tracks.

Sunday will be a memorable powder day with low snow levels providing fantastic snow skiing conditions. Overnight Sunday, there will be another 2-4″. Monday will see mightily fine ski conditions as well.  This is not a massive dump, but certainly respectable and near highest quality available for a Cascade storm. The storm will be assisted from the arctic push funneling chilly air from interior BC blasting through the Fraser River outflow, near Bellingham – putting western Washington in the ice box.

The rest of the week will see mainly dry conditions, but with the chance of new snow by Thursday. Gradual warming will be seen.

Winter Olympic notes…

Our recent snow appears to be much better than the mash potatoes at Sochi. A day powder skiing is always better than any of those made up Olympic sports.

How about a new Olympic sport?

Two skiers race cars through an icy parking lot – driving with ski boots on, doing doughnuts for style points. Then each competes to quickly install tire chains, while wearing only lederhosen (a timed event). Finally you wrestle your opponent into a headlock, give him a wedgie and make him eat snow. Hey, that could be sport; it’s got an alpine theme. I’d buy a pay per view for that one.

…less work, more play.
