Larry’s Powder Alert – Weather Update Feb 3, 2015

Way to go Seahawks – Congratulations!

Major weather regime change ahead – snows will return.

The big chill is on this week with temperatures well below normal. The cold should keep the snow in good shape, but your gonna really want to bundle up with your OR gear – so layer up! Should be lots of blue skies as the pattern is dry but oh, so cold. Highs in the mountains will be in the teens with lows in the single digits. Arctic cold. Did I say cold? The cold here in the lowlands, and this cold snap, could set the stage for a Seattle snowstorm, next weekend. That would be a classic overriding snowstorm – one the models tend to predict with above normal confidence.

The blocking high-pressure which gave us the extended dry spell is weakening and reconfiguring itself. The jet stream will be exerting its authority and the snow will really start help to dump late next weekend. Details to come, but it’s shaping up nicely. Stay tuned – the time has come. Likely an extended snow pattern for the Cascades, and it all starts as a few inches of snow for Seattle, late Saturday.
