Larry’s Powder Alert – January 23 Weather Update

If you want some sunshine – head to the mountains. A high-pressure ridge will keep us high and dry for the weekend ahead. Friday the freezing level will be 12,000 ft – Yikes! That is typically what we would see during the summer. Expect a little lower freezing level and slightly cooler over the weekend, but not by much. No doubt it will feel like spring skiing. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

When we last talked it looked like next Tuesday orWednesday, was showing promise for new snow. Now the models have weakened that potential snowfall. I am devastated. The models lied to me and they don’t even care. I have feelings too. I haven’t trusted a computer since HAL in 2001. They will double cross you and not care. Well, as they say, live by the models die by the models. At any rate, there may be a trace to a few inches in the late Monday to early Wednesday time frame, with cooler weather later next week.

In the distance, it looks like the next chance for snow is Friday or Saturday Jan 31 / Feb 1. I’ll not get too attached to that idea, but the models do show more activity and there is an adjustment in the storm track, which appears to have our name on it.
