Gluten free Powder Alert update
This is my latest analysis regarding the timing and characteristics of the powder storms coming up. Timing and magnitude of each storm has been changing a bit on the computer models every 12-24 hrs, hence this latest update.
The storms are lining up like the evening rush at Dick’s. I’ll have a deluxe with fries, thank you. It’s a conveyor belt of storms and we are on the receiving end of the pow. It’s Beast mode coming up the middle – look out.
Each storm has a similar pattern. Like today, there is 12-24 hours of clearing. Then there is a mild, moist air stream ahead of the next approaching low (SL 3000-4000ft) with a snow rain mix lower slopes, followed by continued snow, but with lower snow levels (2000-3000ft). After that, expect a nice finish, with notes of cherry and oak, followed by earth tones… oops, sorry, that was the fabulous Walla Walla syrah I am drinking right now. (Ski Bluewood)
Anyway, I want to time it so you get the optimum turns and the lowest snow level. I am typing like a madman with all the powder alerts. My keyboard is in flames from the friction.
Ridge top wind could be an issue from time to time. I don’t mention wind much because I am Poobah of Powder, not wind. Wind is for sailors, who think 25 knots is fast. I bike faster than that, but find it difficult to cycle on the water – so ya got me there.
Wind is so invisible…and mysterious, always following the pressure gradient – very obedient. Bottom line, wind is just air in a big fat hurry and sometimes blows snow or even chairlifts.
Here how it is shaping up:
Tonight, modest storm with 4-8″ new,
snow level Thursday: 3000ft – I like it!
A respectable dump will unfold Thursday night to Friday 5-10″ new , snow level 3500ft. Sounds good to me.
Expect a break of sorts later Friday to Saturday. Saturday night another dump is in line. Sunday should be great.
Then later Sunday – Tuesday, expect almost unrelenting snowfall.
Snow level will be from 2000-4000 ft and an overall trend toward lower snow levels later in the period. What’s there not to like?
I don’t want you to soil in your ski pants, but next week could be even better? I like the trend.
Eddie would go.
