POWDER ALERT – Snow Dump Ahead

This is an update and refinement of the powder alert sent out on Sunday.

The weather is tracking pretty close to what I initially forecast a couple of days ago. Thursday looks good with 3-7″ of new and a  snow level (SL) of 2500-3000ft, so quality should be pretty fine.

Friday looks good too, with 1-4″ of new SL: 3000ft. Be sure and get there early for best results.

There is a mild, windy and moist atmospheric river pattern approaching from near Hawaii, aimed in our direction for later Friday. Make it an early day on Friday. With the snow level rising late day, it will be like tossing a Baby Ruth candy bar in a public pool – everyone will scatter. Actually the timing for the mild air will be good, keeping most of Friday and Saturday daylight hours in great conditons. The warmth (SL 4000-6000ft) will only last 12-18hrs, Friday night through early Saturday morning. By late Saturday morning the snow level starts dropping – down to 2500ft by afternoon. Occasionally wind could be an issue. Watch for updates on the Summit opening.

Another storm Saturday night and Sunday will mean near epic conditions on Sunday(SL 2000ft) 5-10″ new , snowing  during the day That has got to be my pick.  But Thursday, most of Friday and much of Saturday also look very good! I am grabbing my new K2 all mountain Annex 98’s – good for groomers and great for the new pow.

Total Cascade snowfall Thursday through Sunday will be 1-3ft plus.

Snow conditions for for eastern Washington ski areas will be excellent as well, generally without snow level issues, so good quality.

New snow Thursday am 2-6″

Weekend snow fall:

49 Degrees North – 10-20″
Mt Spokane – 10-20″
Loup Loup – 6-12″
Mission Ridge – 5-10″
Bluewood – 6-12″
