Larry’s Powder Alert: The Real Deal! January 5, 2013

Powder Alert – The Real Deal – for late week
Sent out Sunday Jan 5th

Game on. Here comes the Cascade snow we have been waiting for. This is gonna be more snow than we’ve seen in some time. Clear the schedule, hold the calls, have your people call my people.

The recent high pressure ridge, which has been producing the dry weather lately, will shift east and finally the door will open. Pacific moisture with mountain snow will aim in our direction.

We are looking for a series of storms, with increasing intensity, to plow through the Cascades starting later Tuesday through Sunday. Models have been increasing snowfall with every model run. Numerical weather prediction computer models indicate several

(1-3) feet of snow could fall, but right now I’ll lean on the lower side of that idea, until we get closer and I see consistency in the model details.

Right now my picks are Friday and Sunday. All areas will see significant new snow. The first system on Tuesday and Wednesday will be rather modest to weak, but it gets better.

Snowlevels will generally be from 2500-3500ft, but there will be a 12 hour period on late Friday and early Saturday with a snow of about 3500-4500ft, dropping Saturday night. Sunday looks excellent, SL 2000ft with great quality.

This string of storms should cause enough snow for the Summit to partially or fully open. I’d say they would get near a foot between Wed and Sunday, probably more.

It is not clear how long this pattern might last beyond next Sunday, so get it while the getting is good. This should really improve coverage and snow surface.

I will update later Tuesday or Wednesday with more details regarding timing and snowfall amounts. The best snowfall and skiing will be on Thursday/Friday and again late Saturday and especially Sunday

It will be raining in the lowlands for the Seahawks next Saturday. Go Hawks. Go deep, with the read option.
