Powder Alert – Weather Update — January 8

We want new snow.

A couple of weak systems are moving in for this weekend. Sadly, weak is the operative word, so please restrain your enthusiasm.

Expect some sun early Friday, then increasing clouds as a very weak weather system moves in with a little snow and a 4500ft snow level. By “little” I mean trace to 1″ on Saturday. Sunday there remains a chance of a “little” snow with the snow level at 3500 ft.

There is a new system, Monday, with a slightly better chance of snow mainly south Cascades into Oregon. It looks like Tuesday and Wednesday will go dry again – ahhhhh, say it ain’t so!

Now, for some great news…

The computer models have been consistently advertising an active weather pattern sometime between January 16th to the 21st. The Climate Prediction Center mid month forecast now confirms that pattern too. Late next week, into the weekend and beyond could finally see some snow. My first guess is 1-2ft over several days and a SL of 2000-4000ft.  Models can change, looking that far ahead., so I am cautious.  I’ll have an update in a couple of days – but at least there is some hope.

I have received some respectable reports about the skiing the last couple of days – especially folks loving the sunshine/warmth this week. But be mindful of the thin snow coverage seen in spots.
